NOTW: What "Not of This World" Actually Means — Remnants

Not of this world" gets used a lot — on hoodies, on bumper stickers, in captions. Most of the time it's shorthand for "different" without much behind it. We wanted the NOTW Series to mean something more specific than that, so here's where the phrase actually comes from, and why it's the most direct series we make.

Where the phrase comes from

"Not of this world" is Jesus's own language, from John 17 — praying for His followers to stay present in the world without being shaped by it: "They are not of the world, even as I am not of it" (John 17:14-16). It's not a call to withdraw. It's a description of a different center of gravity while still being fully here — at work, at school, in the group chat, on the street.

Paul puts the practical version of it in Romans 12:2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Conform is the operative word. NOTW was never about looking different for its own sake — it's about what happens when your values quietly stop matching the pattern around you, and your life (including how you dress) reflects that without needing to announce it.

What that looks like in clothing

Most streetwear communicates through logos, drops, and hype — status through visibility. NOTW works the opposite way: restrained by design. Heavyweight fabric, minimal color palette, no loud branding. The conviction is the point, not the graphic.

That's a deliberate choice, not a limitation. If the whole idea is substance over performance, the clothing has to actually practice that — which is why NOTW pieces are some of the plainest things we make, and also some of the most worn.
